Wolfson Court

Welcome to our consultation website on proposals for the redevelopment of Wolfson Court, Cambridge

St John’s College is bringing forward proposals for the redevelopment of Wolfson Court to deliver modern, purpose built, managed college accommodation in a well-connected location. The proposals seek to meet the need for modern, purpose built, accessible college accommodation in a high quality and managed environment, offering a mix of room types, including studios, shared clusters and accessible bedrooms.
The proposals feature a fully accessible landscape, enhanced green spaces and new planting to boost biodiversity, alongside welcoming outdoor areas designed to foster a sense of community. A sustainable design approach will deliver new energy-efficient buildings, while improved cycle and pedestrian routes will encourage active travel, creating a more connected, inclusive and environmentally responsible place to live.
We are keen to engage with the local community and want to hear your feedback!

The site

Wolfson Court (Clarkson Road, Cambridge, CB3 0EH and 15a Madingley Road, Cambridge, CB3 0EG) was originally built in 1971, extended in 1990, and a nursery was added in 2004.

St John’s College acquired the site from Girton College in 2018, and it has since been let to various colleges on a short-term basis.
Over the past few years, St John’s College has been considering its options for the site. The existing buildings are considered dated, inefficient, and no longer fit for purpose in their current form.
Extensive studies have been undertaken to see if the buildings can be refurbished/extended but the most sustainable and carbon efficient approach is full redevelopment. We have undertaken detailed studies to maximise the reuse of existing materials in the proposed scheme.
The College remains committed to ensuring the site continues to be used for College and University accommodation.
